The new Porsche Taycan overseas test drive is the pinnacle

I still remember that at the Frankfurt Motor Show about 5 years ago, the Porsche Mission E concept car was an eye-opener for many people. Today, 5 years later, Porsche has turned this concept car into a reality and given it a very special name Taycan. The Taycan is Porsche’s first fully electric sports car in production, which also means that Porsche’s electrification technology is fully launched.

During the 10-hour flight, I kept thinking about the question, for the petrol party, is an electric Porsche or a pure Porsche? There is no denying that Porsche has a proud record in hybrid technology. They won the 24 Hours of Le Mans for three consecutive years with the 919 Hybrid, and also broke the fastest lap in New York. Is the Porsche Taycan really as pure as they say, and like the previous Porsche classics? I think the answer will be revealed in two days of test drives.

Porsche introduced the Taycan in two high-performance models, the Taycan Turbo and the Taycan Turbo S. Porsche distinguishes the two cars by color and detail. The Taycan Turbo is blue and the Taycan Turbo S is white, and carbon fiber is used to distinguish them in parts such as the front air intake and the windbreaker.

When you first see the Porsche Taycan, its appearance and styling are very similar to the concept car Mission E. But when you take a closer look, you will find that it also has the shadow of the Porsche 911 and Panamera.

In particular, the front part of the car looks very similar to the Panamera at first glance, but the front face of the Taycan is wider and lower. The reason is that the front engine compartment is just a luggage compartment, and the downward front shape can achieve better aerodynamic effects. Coupled with the streamlined body, the wind resistance coefficient of the Porsche Taycan is only an astonishing 0.22.

After a closer look at the details of the front face, you will find that the high raised fenders on the side are vertical air intakes, through which airflow will flow through the body. In addition, the four-point LED headlights are also particularly conspicuous, with Porsche’s strong recognition.

The Porsche Taycan is 4963/1966/1378mm in length, width and height, which is slightly smaller than the Panamera. The body is made of aluminum, carbon fiber and high-strength steel, and the crew compartment is made of high-strength thermoformed steel. Even so, it still weighs more than 2t.

I find the design of the Taycan tail to be the most fascinating. The through-light and glass PORSCHE logo, as well as the stretchable rear wing, are typical Porsche design elements. The rear deflector and rear wing are both from PAA Porsche Active Aerodynamics.

The Taycan Turbo S model comes standard with 21-inch wheels with white inner rims, just like those on the Mission E concept car, and is equipped with PCCB’s top-of-the-line ceramic braking system. The Taycan Turbo is a relatively traditional wheel.
