The 8th Member Congress and the 2019 Annual Meeting of China Historical Materialism Society were held.

　　From November 8 to 10, 2019, the Eighth Congress of the China Historical Materialist Society and the theoretical seminar on "Philosophy Persistence and Innovation of Contemporary China Marxism" and the 2019 Annual Meeting of the China Historical Materialist Society, hosted by China Historical Materialist Society and Tianjin University, were held in Tianjin. The new leadership of China Historical Materialist Society was elected, and more than 300 member representatives, thesis representatives, experts and scholars from all over the country attended and carried out in-depth research.

　　This year is the year of the change of the China Historical Materialist Society. On the afternoon and evening of November 8, the preparatory meeting of the eighth member congress of the China Historical Materialist Society and the fifth meeting of the seventh Council, the eighth member congress of the China Historical Materialist Society and the first meeting of the eighth Council of the China Historical Materialist Society were held respectively. The Eighth Congress of Members first reviewed and approved the work report and financial report of the Seventh Council. Before the election, the staff explained to the General Assembly the candidates for the Eighth Council, the Standing Council and the Vice-President, and Zhu Jidong, Secretary General of China Historical Materialism Society, explained the election method. After more than two hours of elections, the Eighth Congress of Members first elected the Eighth Council of China Historical Materialism Society, which was composed of 182 members, and then the first meeting of the Eighth Council of China Historical Materialism Society elected the Standing Council and the new leadership of China Historical Materialism Society. Hou Huiqin was re-elected as the new president of China Historical Materialism Society. Xin Xiangyang, Zhao Jianying, Jin Minqing, Ai Silin, Sun Xiguo, Guo Jiezhong, Jiang Yingchun, Yuan Yinchuan, Yang Lifetime, Zhao Liwen, Li Jianping, Lin Jian, Yan Xiaofeng, Wu Fulai, Feng Yanli and Yang Haifeng were elected as vice presidents of the Society, and Zhu Jidong was elected as secretary general of the Society.

　　On the morning of November 9th, the theoretical seminar on "Persistence and Innovation of Marxist Philosophy in Contemporary China" and the 2019 annual meeting of China Historical Materialism Society opened in the lecture hall of Zhengdong Library in Beiyangyuan Campus of Tianjin University. Zhao Meirong, Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee of Tianjin University, and Professor Hou Huiqin, President of China Historical Materialism Society and Director of the National Research Center for Cultural Security and Ideological Construction of China Academy of Social Sciences, delivered speeches respectively. Subsequently, the conference held an academic discussion with the theme of "Persistence and Innovation of Marxist Philosophy in Contemporary China". Professor Hou Huiqin first gave a keynote speech on "Basic Experience of Persisting in Perfecting the Leadership System in communist party". In his keynote speech, he pointed out that the socialist governance system is an unsolved problem in the world socialist movement. The Fourth Plenary Session of the 19th CPC Central Committee comprehensively expounded the composition of Socialism with Chinese characteristics system, indicating that our national system has been preliminarily finalized and improved. There are four main reasons why the Communist Party of China (CPC) can achieve this major historical breakthrough: First, the Communist Party of China (CPC) has always been able to withstand the pressure, grasp the problems, hold the bottom line, keep up with the historical trend, and constantly explore and innovate; Second, always adhere to independent, controllable and orderly reform and opening up; Third, always adhere to the bottom line thinking, prevent and resolve major risks, and avoid subversive mistakes; Fourthly, we have found an effective way to keep the Communist Party of China (CPC) advanced and pure. Professor Hou Huiqin pointed out that the theme education of "Do not forget your initiative mind, Remember Mission" is of great significance to the Party’s self-revolution.
